SEPTEMBER 2011: Mickeys #299-#328 - Movie Mickey Month!

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE
1 September 2011
Favourite Christmas movie.
Close second - White Christmas.
Can't get past either Zuzu's petals or General Waverly's salute in without getting a lump in the throat. -
HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH
2 September 2011
The IMDB summary:
'A transexual punk rock girl from East Berlin tours the US with her rock band as she tells her life story and follows the ex-boyfriend/bandmate who stole her songs.'
All I know is that it's probably one of the most original, funny and touching movies I've ever seen and it has an absolutely killer soundtrack.
It won a stack of awards when it came out in 2001 and it's one of my favourite movies of all time. -
THE WIZARD OF OZ
3 September 2011

Such fun with this one, reinterpreting the original movie poster with mouse-related images. -
THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY
7 September 2011
A second dose of classic Clint for Movie Month. -
A CLOCKWORK ORANGE
8 September 2011
Alrighty my droogs, no appy polly loggies for this - I know it's bezoomny, but the golosses in my gulliver made me do it. -

9 September 2011
65 millions years in the making, and then I turned it into a mouse... -

FORREST GUMP
18 September 2011
If life is like a box of chocolates, this year has been a drawer full of mice... -
TITANIC
19 September 2011
What fascinates me about Titanic is the extraordinary story of its making - check out 'Titanic and the Making of James Cameron' by Paula Parisi - it's a gripping read and even if the movie doesn't exactly float your boat (pun intended), learning how high the stakes were and how much effort went into the movie will make you see it in a different light. -
AVATAR
20 September 2011
By some weird twist of fate I drew this Mickey on the exact same day that Disney announced their partnership with James Cameron to bring a massive Avatar-themed area to Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom. -
DONNIE DARKO
21 September 2011
Another favourite movie.
Still not sure whether I understand it all though. -
RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK
22 September 2011
Like, I wasn't going to draw Mickey as Indy...? -
BLADERUNNER
23 September 2011
Up there in my top 3 all time movies - can't help but keep going back to this classic year-after-year. -
BACK TO THE FUTURE
24 September 2011
First movie Jayne and I ever saw at the cinema together.
-
E.T.
25 September 2011

DIRTY DANCING
26 September 2011
Another suggestion from my mate, Sharna. -
DRIVE
27 September 2011
Went to see 'Drive' directed by Nicolas Winding Refn at the cinema this evening with my mate, Chris.
Having seen the trailer (which painted it somewhat like a high class 'Fast and the Furious' movie) and never having watched any of Refn's other work, to say that I was surprised by the film was an understatement...
It's a VERY GOOD and VERY CLEVER film. Just don't be surprised if you feel slightly violated by the end of it. -
FIGHT CLUB
28 September 2011
Who's the leader of the club that's made for you and me...?
Just don't talk about it,okay?
(I'm a real fan of Chuck Palahniuk's books and I'm sure that drawing an image of Mickey - to some, the ultimate symbol of corporate America and mass market entertainment - as Tyler Durden could probably be seen as some kind of pop-cultural post-modernist satirical commentary, but honestly, I took a peek into our DVD collection and just thought it'd be darned funny to do this...) -
SINGIN' IN THE RAIN
29 September 2011

501ST LEGION MICKEY
30 September 2011
I sat down this evening to watch 'Star Warriors' - a documentary about the 501st Legion - the Star Wars fan organisation whose members build their own Stormtrooper costumes and do stacks of charity work worldwide, making dreams come true and bringing a smile to those that need it most.
The documentary took me aback - I was completely moved by it.
Ladies and gentlemen of the 501st Legion, I salute you.
(Now, how do I convince Jayne that I should start work on my own Stormtrooper outfit...?)
